Japanese Teahouse
New work available in-store & online.
"We are honoured to present Louis Vincent’s tea trays for io. Louis is a young British woodworker based in Romsey in Hampshire, who works with locally sourced wood in close combination with other natural materials such as local wild clay and Japanese urushi lacquer.
As pieces of lacquerware created with urushi, Louis’s works are rather unconventional. Their surfaces carry a matte, raw impression, rather than the more familiar sense of a perfectly polished, shiny exterior.
Looking closer, it is as if each piece reveals a cosmic picture; like viewing a distant planet, or witnessing a nebula on the verge of forming stars. As we begin to use them, however, they also immediately feel down to earth: beautifully functional and tactile, almost like a piece of nature itself.
Only a few tea trays remain, and we hope you will enjoy exploring these unique works for tea."
